USEPA has expressed their concern over the lack of compliance associated with the requirements of the "Fumigation Management Plans" for phosphine fumigants.  Degesch America is working diligently to develop a plan for reminding users of this label requirement.  Remember, you must always fill out an FMP for every fumigation with metal phosphides or cylinderized phosphine fumigants.  For a copy of a FMP template created by Cardinal, click here, or go to the Downloads page.  Degesch also has a software program available for creating a FMP which can be obtained by contacting us at Cardinal.

CDPR will soon be listing all phosphine releasing fumigants as a "Restricted Use Pesticide", which includes Degesch America's Fumi-Cels/Fumi-Strips®, Magtoxin® Pre-pac Spot Fumigant, and Cytec's ECO2FUME® and VAPORPH3OS®.  This will requires that all applicators obtain a "Restricted Use Pesticide Permit" from their local County Agricultural Commissioner's office, and submit a 24 hour "Notice of Intent" before the application.  This will give the regulatory agencies more control over the use and potential mitigation measures that may be required.

The new RDA Fumiscope from Key Chemical and Equipment is now available from Cardinal Professional Products.  This high-range monitoring device detects concentrations of methyl bromide and sulfuryl fluoride (Vikane® and ProFume®) and transmits the data via wireless or telephone connections to a remote computer.  This provides real-time gas concentrations without the travel time normally incurred with monitoring fumigations.  Please call one of our representative for further information.

We are in the midst of a worldwide pyrethrum shortage which is expected to last through the end of 2009 and perhaps into 2010.  Cardinal will have a decent supply of pyrethrum, but may run short in 2009....but the good news is, there are plenty of alternative products that you can use such as Card-O-Vap 8, Cardinal Endure ULV, Cirrus®, Sector® and NyGuard® (from MGK).  These products are proven to be very effective and are excellent alternatives.
